Whether we’re talking about softly lit alleys or awe-inspiring, sunbathed forests, there’s no denying that lighting is one of the most important cinematic elements that can make or break a video game’s immersion.

Although a natural, unaltered sunset scene does a fantastic job at pulling at our heartstrings, the modern luxuries of multi-light set-ups and the more recent real-time rendering engines used to create some of our favorite video games have allowed us to discover new ways of using light for splendid storytelling.

In this video, we’re going to explore how the games we love have pushed the boundaries of creativity and use light to create immersive worlds, draw emotion, and even create unique game mechanics that might surprise you.
