Numpad keys are the big block of number keys to the right of a full-sized keyboard. Back in the day, these keys were used for most navigation operations in Blender. These days Blender has lovely navigation widgets found in the top right corner or the tilde key which brings up a similar pie menu. However, for people looking for a faster solution, or for those who simply do not possess a full-sized keyboard (such as with a laptop), it’s nice to be able to use the top 1-0 keys found on any keyboard for these navigation keys. It should be noted that the regular 1-0 keys are already mapped to collection toggling keys in Blender. But if you don’t use those keys, here is a great alternative use for them.
