ZBrush 2019 – Creature Sculpting & Exploration of Forms with Brett Briley “Spark” – Episode 20
For this demo I first started out with a sphere along with using a previous T-rex I created some time ago. I split the T-rex using the back half for my design, and played with the sphere to look for the silhouette and direction. Using my previous demo’s creature, I headed in a direction of what other animals/etc would be in it’s world. I continued playing with the design and silhouette using t-pose to play with different parts to scale, move, and shape to get closer to my design. Concentrating on having the eye flow around the creature and giving areas of rest, I slowly created the base form, before filling out the secondary details. After making sure I was happy with the direction, I explained a few tricks such as texture to PolyPaint, and DynaMesh to be able to get the most from alpha detail. I then went back over the different areas to finalize the high level details before bringing in alphas to flesh out the creatures skin and form. After sculpting, I went into poly-paint using colors from my T-rex texture as a starting point, then brought out different skin-tones, and color to push the eye to the areas of interest. After the PolyPainting process, I then brought the character into the new NPR filters, to wrap up the episode.
