Creature Sculpting & Exploration of Forms – Brett Briley “Spark” – Episode 12
For this demo I started from an male scanned head. I started with a general idea of a older alien who might be some sort of wiser elder. With that in mind, I brought in a skull I had previously created, and used it to create interest and ranking. Then brought in a few spheres to create the head and eyes, along with a brain I created to do some skin detail in the back. Concentrating on having the eye flow around the design and giving areas of rest, I slowly built up the base forms before filling out the secondary details of the concept. After making sure I was happy with the direction, I then added the detail using alphas to bring the individual layers together, and finalize the character. After sculpting, I went into poly-paint using a dark green/blue tone to create the base color, and then slowly added lighter values to bring out the areas of interest. I then showed how to create a lo-poly using the hi-poly to create a decimated mesh, then ZRemeshed at a good level for flow and poly count. Bringing in UV master, I then showed how to create UVs. Exporting both the hi-poly and lo-poly into obj’s, I opened Substance Painter to show how to create maps for the lo-poly on the ZBrush hi-poly obj. Finally, back in ZBrush, I did a quick walk through on how to pose to bring a little more life to the design
